The government Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Fact Sheet states people claiming Native American descent out-number those recognized for services throught hte federal government by about 2 to 1. In California, this problem is even more pronounced. (source link) |

many of the California tribes are not eligible for any assistance from the US government.

They are not eligible to have trust-land to develop business ventures, which limits their ability for many types of service, loans or investor support. (source link) |

there is a growing disparity in Health Care resources for Native Americans compared to the general population.

The federal Indian Health Services found that health care is in poor quality and availability for all Native Americans compared to that of the general population. (source link) |

that data reveals alarming statistics in the Native American population concerning health issues such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Statistics for these major diseases are far above the national average for Native American and American Indians (NA/AI). Diabetes, for instance, is over twice the national average of the NA/AI population and has continued to increase (CDC 1994-2004). (source link) |
